FROM KEN PEACH
Hi there Friendly BBQ and Chili Folk,
It is just one week (Sat 2 May) until the event of the Astoria bbq and chili contest down in Oregon. I think today is the last day for the cheap entry fee for the bbq people and chili people should email or phone Tom Rowe they are going down there at (775) 232-7172 or email trrowe64@yahoo.com

I checked out the mileage from my house in Tacoma to Astoria and it is about the same distance as going up to Vancouver, B.C., Canada - around 160 miles. So a one day trip is possible but if not then Tom suggested a nice 4 star motel (Crest Motel - 1-800-421-3141 or email frontdesk@astoriacrestmotel.com) for around $70 a night which is on the way to Pier 39, 100 39th St on Hwy 30 (or Liefe Erickson Dr as it says on the map.)

If you live in Oregon you probably already know the way but if you live in Washington we are going down I-5 to Kelso (look for Hwy 30 cutoff to Rainier/Astoria, OR) turning east on Hwy 30 and it is about 50 miles from there to the event site in Astoria. At least that is the way I see it on the map.

Pier 39 is on 39th St pass Pipeline Rd on left and 39th St is on right side before you get to 38th St.

Ruth and I hope to see some of you down there and it will be a good way to start off the chili cooking season. Good luck and have a great year.
